Watch: Northern Ontario's Forgotten Canoe Route In Remote Wilderness

Beauty of the Backcountry uploaded a new video this week: Northern Ontario's Forgotten Canoe Route In Remote Wilderness.

Have you ever felt like an imposter? Not qualified or skilled enough to complete a difficult task in the time allotted? Travelling through the rugged, wild terrain of the public/treaty lands of Northern Ontario isn't easy. It takes a lot of hard work...sweat...resilience...teamwork...a bit of blood....and even some tears. You might even give up trying to finish the trip and just turn around. We did just that earlier this year, but we weren't deterred.

Starting on Toodee Lake, in the remote wilderness of the Penokean Hills in Algoma, Ontario, Canada, the route winds its way South through many crystal clear lakes and bushy portages toward the picturesque Kirkpatrick Lake. But the path is wrought with challenges; liftovers, portages, drags, grinds, bumps and scrapes through a series of untraveled creeks and forest trails. With only 3.5 days to complete this rough route, there was little time for rest and relaxation - but we prefer to move when the sun is over the horizon anyway. The aquamarine lakes and stunning cliffs along the way make it all worthwhile.

Most people access this area via a logging road to Toodee Lake and don't stray too far from there, aside from ATV's along the web of dirt logging roads. There's also a really rough road to Duval Lake, but otherwise it's usually only by float plane that these magical lakes are ever accessed, mostly via Blue Fox Camp - with epic fishing for Brook Trout and Lake Trout.
