The Canadian Canoe Museum is about to unveil a brand new temporary exhibit on May 14th, 2026 called Canoe Perspectives. This exhibit will showcase a selection from the largest private collection of original Canadian art featuring the canoe, the exhibit includes works by…
Cornelius Krieghoff
William Armstrong
F.H. Johnston
David Milne
Alex Colville
Ken Danby
and others
These paintings are presented alongside artifacts from the Museum’s collection, offering insight into how the canoe has been represented in different contexts over time. A highlight of the exhibit is a painting by Frances Anne Hopkins, a notable 19th century artist known for her detailed depictions of life along Canada’s waterways during the fur trade era.
“As the home of the world’s largest collection of canoes and kayaks, the Museum is uniquely positioned to host this private art collection. Experiencing these incredible works alongside the canoes within the broader context creates a connection between art and object that you cannot find anywhere else.”
Be sure to see some unique art by visiting the museum at 2077 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough, Ontario.
