Canoe: A Collection Of Canadian Art

The Canadian Canoe Museum just announced a new upcoming book called Canoe: A Collection Of Canadian Art that will be coming out September 2026.
Authored by Anne Ewen and Rod Green, with a foreword by Grit and Scott McCreath, ππ’π―π°π¦ celebrates the vessel that has come to occupy a unique and shifting place in our national imagination, and that persists as a symbol of artistic inspiration and environmental connection.
The McCreath Canoe Collection, comprising 90 works from across the country, brings together depictions of the canoe in paintings, sculpture, prints, carvings, glass, and ceramics, as well as birch bark canoes. This private collection is catalogued in this volume, with each image illuminated by commentary on the work and artist. Among the 50 historical and contemporary artists featured are such luminaries as Alex Colville, David Milne, Cornelius Krieghoff, Frances Anne Hopkins, Ernest Lindner, Illingworth Kerr, and Joe Talirunili.
Selected works from the collection are on display now at the Canadian Canoe Museum. Canoe: A Collection of Canadian Art is now available for preorder at your favourite bookstore or online retailer, Amazon.ca, Indigo, the Canadian Canoe Museum, and on the Figure 1 website.
