Drybag Canoe Ballast

I'm gonna guess most people already know this paddling hack but just in case... Using a couple of dry bags, filled with water and placed bow and stern, is a great way to create customized ballast for solo paddling & They can simply be drained for portaging and refilled at the other end. When not needed, the bags can be rolled up and lashed into the canoe for easy transport and to ensure they're always handy Normally I have lots gear in my boat for multi-day trips but this works beautifully for day trips
(Yes, you could also toss a few rocks into the boat in a pinch but the dry bags are gentler on the canoe and also, rocks really shouldn't be moved if you can avoid it, so as not to disrupt micro-habitats and accelerate erosion
