Trail Mix: Beware Of A Deal Too Good To Be True

With holiday shopping and deals abound this time of the year, it’s good to take note of where you’re buying your outdoors gear. We’ve come across a few sites now posing as MEC offering gear at very tempting prices, but is obviously a scam. Always check the URL of the site you are on and be weary of the e-mails that make it past your junk filter. If it’s not the manufacturer’s website, or even if you aren’t certain… it’s best to close the window and either search for the manufacturer’s website from scratch, or better yet… shop from your local independent gear shop.

Just recently I saw a site that looked to sell my favourite HanWag boots right here in Canada at a price that made me look twice. But when I couldn’t find the actual contact information anywhere on the website it was clear it was a scam. Sure enough, the entire website vanished just a week later. Buyer beware indeed!
