Goat Maps Is Shutting Down

Back in 2024 a brand new GPS app launched called Goat Maps that was really slick. The maps looked great, the app was very responsive, and downloading segments of maps for offline use was nice and quick. The app itself was created by two former co-founders of Gaia GPS, another popular navigation app. Sadly, a few years later the app is shutting down…

“As some of you have already noticed, Goat Maps is no longer on the App Store, and subscriptions are no longer renewing. This is the first step in shutting down Goat Maps. This email should have came out sooner, but it’s hard for me to admit publicly that I am giving up on something I have invested several years of work in to. At this point Goat Maps feels like one of the best mapping apps I have ever used, and I am using it on a daily basis, but it is not where it needs to be for financial success. While part of me would like to keep working away make Goat Maps a success, all of the time spent inside on a computer has been taking a toll on me, and I have realized I need to spend more time outside. I have made some effort to find a new team to keep Goat Maps going, but have not found anyone I thought would be a good steward of it. I am still willing to consider a sale or partnership to keep Goat Maps running, so if you are interested, feel free to reach out to me.”.

Such a shame, in a market where other GPS apps are either charing higher and higher fees or are becoming worse over time. I’ll miss this one if it disappears alltogether. Kudos to Jesse Crocker, Anna Hentzel Johnson and any other team members for all their hard work.
