Volunteer Now To Become A 2026 B.C. Parks Backcountry Host

B.C. Parks has opened their yearly volunteer positions to become a backcountry host for 2026. Hosts receive free accommodation in the backcountry and play an important role in welcoming hikers and sharing location-specific information. Responsibilities vary by site, but every position offers an unforgettable experience.

Whether you are a researcher, photographer, artist, blogger, or simply someone looking for a summer backcountry adventure, these positions are truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Applications for the following positions are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

  • Croteau Lake – Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island

  • Cold Fish Lake Camp- Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park (flight costs from Dease Lake covered by BC Parks)

  • Kakwa Park
