Northern Scavenger: How To Make Custom Maps

Northern Scavenger has put together an excellent video of how they create their own custom maps for any of their adventures using CalTopo.

I get the question a lot about where I get my maps, so I made a video on my map making process from start to finish for my most recent 20-day canoe trip. This includes both map building online, and markups in the field that help me avoid getting lost (as much).

The big takeaway is that I’ve been using CalTopo for over eight years now. My favourite features are that I can print unlimited 11x17” maps at custom scale and grid, download offline maps for my phone, and scout real-time conditions through sentinel satellite imagery.
