How To Keep Freeze-Dried Meals Warm While Winter Camping

Scott M shared a great tip for reheating freeze dried meals while winter camping…

Best way to have hot freeze-dried food in the winter:

- put your boiled water into a thermos immediately

- put your dry, opened pouch in an insulated layer, such as dollar store insulated lunch bags. You can double up the lunch bags if needed, and put more than one pouch in a bag

- Put only 75% of the water necessary in at first and stir

- Put in more at midway time

- At end time, finish off the water

- eat out of insulated bag

This will keep your meal nice & hot.

That’s a pretty handy way to ensure your meals aren’t cooling down to quick while you’re trying to cook them. It’s no fun eating a cold meal after a long day in the snow and even a insulated lunch bag from the dollar store is enough to keep the majority of the heat from escaping into the air.

Thanks for sharing Scott!
