The MEC Logo shines brightly on a cold blustery evening at 784 Sheppard Avenue East, just a few minutes drive from the intersection of Hwy 401 and 404. The two-storey 34,000 square foot building was strategically located in Bayview Village to become a hub for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that won’t trek downtown Toronto to the flagship King Street location (which will be moving to Queen Street West in 2018).

Like all MEC stores, North York will act as a community hub. By doubling our presence in Toronto with this new accessible location, we are better able to serve our dynamic communities, inspiring new and existing members to get outdoors and lead healthy active lifestyles. We are excited to contribute to the neighbourhood, adding lasting value, vibrant in-store experiences and vitality through our services and programming.

The new renewable energy powered building has two levels of underground parking, plenty of bicycle parking stalls, full service ski and bicycle shops, but what will strike you the most is the wood-infused interiors and large windows which let natural light pour into the store.

This calendar is going to fill up fast starting in 2017, and to top it off the North York location offers a meeting space that local clubs can use free of charge. Seasonal events such as MEC Snowfest, Paddlefest and Bikefest will be jointly supported through the Co-op’s North York and King Street locations.

The store has been in the works for several years, and we are thrilled to now be able to welcome new and existing MEC members to our brand new space in North York. Whether novice or expert outdoor enthusiasts, we are keen to support their favourite activities and passion for getting outdoors.
