Sidewalk Cycling Crackdown?

Photo by Frank Gunn/Canadian PressCBC reports that the Toronto by-law for cycling on the sidewalks might be enforced because of public pressure. The by-law states that only children riding bicycles with 24" or less wheels are allowed on the sidewalk and the fine for violating that is $90. With proper, safe bicycling lanes not established yet, this issue will still continue.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Star reports that the Ontario laws need to be changed as electric bikes are allowed on sidewalks and pose a threat.

So we have these people whipping along the sidewalks at 32 km/h on a vehicle that can weigh a couple hundred pounds, with a rider,” Smith said. “This is what’s causing us concern.
