PureGuard Now Sold Across Canada To Combat Ticks

The Canadian made and developed spray PureGuard was developed to combat the growing number of ticks across Canada (Have a peek over at Health Canada’s data for a depressing look at how bad things are). We mentioned back in 2015 that a researcher from Nova Scotia won an award for an all natural tick repellent, and finally it has been approved for sale across Canada. Known as Alantick back then, it has been rebranded as PureGuard, is DEET free and is made from PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol), derived from the Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE).
Canadian entrepreneur Lisa Learning created the formula after both of her sons contracted Lyme disease. When trying to find a tick repellent she felt that on one side were harsh, synthetic chemicals she didn't want near her kids; on the other were "natural" essential oil sprays that she felt offered nothing more than an anecdotal sense of security. After years collaborating with scientists she has found that PMD which is a specific plant-derived scent mixture directly "blinds" the tick's sensory organs, completely blocking their ability to detect host attractants like human sweat and skin oils.
It comes in 60ml, 240ml and 500ml bottles and is safe to use on babies six months and older as well as pets. An application lasts up to 5 hours for ticks and 6 hours for mosquitoes. Use their interactive map to find a store near you that sells it.
