Helicopter Mounted Portable Cell Tower Helps SAR Find Missing Man

In a B.C. (and possibly Canadian) first… North Shore Rescue used a helicopter mounted portable cell tower known as a LifeSeeker to find a missing man in the wilderness. Although the area had no cell phone coverage, the ingenious technology of the LifeSeeker offered the missing man’s cell phone a tower to ‘lock on to’ and help search and rescue locate him.

This portable cellular tower specifically works in areas where there are no telecommunication cell towers and can also be mounted to a four-wheeler. It looks to be a valuable tool for locating people, especially when time matters. It’s also a good reminder to have a spare battery pack with you when heading out into the outdoors.
