Have Your Say On Alberta Parks' New Draft "Plan for Parks"

Alberta Parks has released a new 26 page draft “Plan for Parks” in which they want to “ensure the new plan helps support the priorities of visitors while maintaining the natural and cultural heritage of Alberta’s parks”. The original Plan for Parks launched in 2009 as a 10-year plan. Alberta Parks wants to ensure the new plan helps support the priorities of visitors while maintaining the natural and cultural heritage of Alberta’s parks.

The provincial parks system in Alberta is a highly valued part of Alberta’s identity and landscape. It is a public good built on nearly 100 years of commitment to protect and appreciate Alberta’s natural heritage. To meet increasing demands for recreation, accelerating and new environmental pressures, and a growing provincial population, the new Plan for Parks will build from direction originally set in the 2009 Plan for Parks. The Plan for Parks provides strategic direction to guide management of the provincial parks system in Alberta, based on best practices, engagement feedback from Indigenous communities and organizations, stakeholders, and Albertans. The Plan for Parks offers the vision, enduring goals, and outcomes to guide strategic direction and supporting actions for provincial parks, wildland provincial parks, and provincial recreation areas. The result is a coordinated, collaborative provincial parks system that provides exceptional visitor experiences in exceptional settings
