2025 Canoeing Photo Contest

I just wanted to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone that entered the contest this year. I think it was one of our most successful in our 15 years! I also wanted to send out another thank you to Recreational Barrel Works, Maps By Jeff and MEC for supplying the prizes.
First Place - Ryan Woodsworth
Second Place - Doug Doyle
Third Place - Glennis Boyce
As the 2025 Canoeing season starts to wind down we look back fondly through the trips we've taken... which means it's time for our yearly photo contest!
The rules are simple...
The contest is open to Canadian residents only (I’m terribly sorry to our U.S. and international readers, it’s not always easy for us to ship prizes out to you and there are some sticky legalities behind it as well.).
The photo must have been taken in 2025.
There are no specifics as to what you have to submit. Send us your best photo of you or your family in a canoe, what you spotted while in your canoe, or even a snapshot of you portaging. What ever you like! Be sure to include where you were too.
We know from experience, it’s always hard to choose… but send us only one photo.
Contest ends November 30th, 2025. We'll pick three lucky people as 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The 1st place winner will get to choose a single item from the prizes below, followed by 2nd place and 3rd place winners.
You’ll have to the end of the year to claim your prize (we’ll contact you). In the rare chance prizes go unclaimed, they will be entered back into our prize pool.
How do you enter?
Easy! E-mail us a photo, or send it to us on Facebook or tag us on Instagram (and give us a like or follow while you're there!)

Walt B: Spanish River
Randi Jamieson: The boys first portage by Raph Bice Lake.

Susan Enyedy: I took this photo on September 27 on McCraney Lake in Algonquin on a solo backcountry trip. Love my h2o 15 4 Prospector!

They were home in Ontario and jumped at the opportunity to go on a backcountry trip with mom. This is a photo taken just off Lake Temagami. They were enjoying the little sunshine we had. Rain didn’t deter them for a minute.
Doug Roberts: September 2025 Potter Lake Algonquin Park I took this shot of my buddy Rick out casting for brookies. It was a beautiful night and an exceptional moment in time.

Angel C: Post-lunch leg stretches on a sandbar along the Athabasca River in Alberta during a three-day trip downriver in the fall. My friend (pictured) and I work as fire lookouts, spending about 160 consecutive days watching for wildfire smoke in the Rocky Mountain Foothills. The Athabasca River and its tributaries weave between our individual areas of responsibility, and it felt right to cap off our lookout seasons with a canoe trip on the mighty river!

The sun comes out, the wind stops, it warms up, and we can do nothing but lay back and absorb the warmth! (Murtle Lake, Wells Gray Park, British Columbia)

Manon Ruel: Hello, I am submitting this photo to the contest. It was taken during a powerful moment on Lake Minnewanka while I was on a solo canoe and van trip. This journey began during a time when my life felt heavy and overwhelming. I had been carrying too many pressures for too long, and the loss of my five year old dog to a coyote became the moment that pushed everything over the edge. It was the tip of the iceberg in a period when I was already exhausted and stretched thin.
I reached a point where I needed to step away from the noise and the constant demands. I needed room to breathe, to feel, and to heal. Setting out alone in my van gave me that space. The open roads, the quiet nights, the lakes and mountains, and the long stretches of solitude helped me reconnect with myself.
This photo captures one of the moments that stayed with me. It reminded me that even in struggle there can be beauty, and that peace often appears when I stop resisting what is. It holds a piece of the healing that unfolded throughout my van journey and the strength I found in the stillness.
