Crowdfunding: Barker Island Composting Toilet

Crowdfunding: Barker Island Composting Toilet

It’s great to see that the Barker Lake Area on the Churchill River (in northern Saskatchewan) is being enjoyed by so many people… but it is creating a growing issue. Human waste at the campsites has become a serious problem so a GoFundMe fundraiser has been created with a goal of $15,000.

Our goal for this campaign is to raise funds to purchase and maintain a composting toilet on Barker Island, the most heavily used campsite in the area. Saskatchewan Parks is working to install similar composting toilets within the park boundaries on Otter Lake and downstream from Stanley Mission but are not able to install toilets outside the park boundaries. Despite not being able to directly help, Saskatchewan Parks is very supportive of this project.

All proceeds will be donated to Saskatchewan Trail Association who is working towards setting up composting toilets along the most heavily used parts of the Churchill River. They will be starting with a toilet on Barker Island.
