Yoho and Kootenay National Parks Issue New Rules For Watercraft

Yoho National Park and Kootenay National Park have issued a new Self-registration permit when using watercraft (such as a canoe, kayak, raft, stand-up paddleboard or inflatable boat or toy, as well as fishing equipment like rods, tackle, waders, wading boots and gloves) in their parks.

The self-certification permit program requires that all watercraft be…

  • cleaned and drained of water, mud and debris

  • dried for a minimum of 48 hours before use in any lake or river in Yoho or Kootenay

Quagga and Zebra Mussels have been found in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec however have not made their way to Alberta or B.C. This effort is to stop any chance of them entering the food chain which would dramatically alter it in Western Provinces. This should also help prevent Whirling Disease which effects fish.
