Paddle Your Way Through The Historic Canals of Canada

Did you know you can canoe, kayak or SUP your way through the Rideau Canal and Trent-Severn Waterway? Explore these historic canals that were originally constructed in the 1800s. The locks themselves are open from mid-May to mid-October the best time to paddle is during the shoulder seasons. You can lock through or portage the locks with the longest hike being just under 600m (Although you can't portage at Merrickville, Old Slys, Smiths Falls Combined and Smiths Falls Detached due to dangerous highway crossings).

Paddling docks are also offered along most Rideau Canal locations and are starting to pop up on Trent-Severn locks as well. They help to put-in and take out without having to scale the steep cement walls in their entirety.

Some other locations also offer different means of exiting the water such as steps or a launch ramp.

You can also camp at a lock for a very reasonable $4.90 per person per night.
