Berg Lake Trail Is Closed For The 2022 Season

Berg Lake Trail Is Closed For The 2022 Season

Update: The Berg Lake Trail is open for winter use, beginning November 25, 2022.

Sadly B.C. Parks’ has closed their renowned hiking trail for the 2022 season. A notice on the Mount Robson Provincial Park page explains that the Berg Lake Trail was “severely impacted by flooding, resulting in significant damage to many sections of the trail”. Several bridges are missing, much of the trail is unsafe for public access, and the Robson River may change course again as it did last summer. The entire trail will be closed throughout 2022 to complete additional assessments, monitor the river, and begin repairs.

With climate change creating unprecedented and extreme weather events across the province, repairs made to the Berg Lake Trail will be built with climate resiliency in mind.

Throughout 2022, construction and repairs will be focused on:

  • Monitoring the annual freshet of the Robson River

  • Expanding the current parking lot,

  • Repairing several bridges,

  • Updating the Kinney Lake Campground, and

  • Rebuilding the trail up to Kinney Lake
