Province Of Manitoba Invests $1.1M To Improve Accessibility At Manitoba Parks

Back in 2021 the Province of Manitoba created a $20-million Provincial Parks Endowment Fund to help with the modernization and enhancement of provincial parks. Now, in conjunction with a survey that asked the public for their opinion on what should be improved, $1 million per year will support projects that will enhance the ecological integrity and visitor experiences in provincial parks such as…

  • development and maintenance of trails, boardwalks and associated infrastructure

  • public-use facilities such as amphitheaters, shelters, day-use sites, playground equipment, docks and launches

  • park road maintenance

  • habitat restoration and enhancement

  • historical assets and cultural sites

  • infrastructure to support programming

  • modern machinery and operational equipment

  • municipal servicing infrastructure

  • campground enhancements

  • interpretive infrastructure to support programming

Each year, priorities for the use of the revenues generated through the Endowment Funds will be determined through public engagement. This year survey results shows that visitors are most interested in improving trails and boardwalks.

Comments about trails and backcountry routes were also common, with 24 per cent of question respondents commenting on this subject. This included comments about the need to improve or create new trails and backcountry routes (including canoe routes), improve/ create ancillary facilities such as parking and staging areas, make changes to trails to address conflicts between different user types, and improve trail maps.
