'Save Wolf Lake' Photo Contest

'Save Wolf Lake' Photo Contest

Wolf Lake, located in Temagami, Ontario has been facing issues for many years due to mining activity. In 1999 the Government of Ontario committed to protect this area of old-growth forest, however mining claims and leases surrounding Wolf Lake prevented its inclusion in the newly created Chiniguchi Waterway Provincial Park. Despite holding this “park-in-waiting” status for more than 15 years, the Government of Ontario continues to allow mining activity  in the heart of old-growth forest.

Just 50km northeast of Sudbury is the world’s largest known old growth red pine forest.  As part of the Chiniguchi waterway, Wolf Lake is treasured for its popular backcountry canoe routes and recreational opportunities. People come from around the world to experience the beauty of the towering red pines, quartzite cliffs, and sparkling blue water in this critically endangered ecosystem.

You can help by taking part in the letter campaign as well as using the hashtag #WolfLakeWednesday on Twitter.
