It’s 30 years to the day since Bill Mason’s passing. We’re sitting down tonight to watch an old classic as tribute. I love a quote from the movie (I’ve slightly shortened it here)…

I really enjoy showing people what I found out here… the problem with film, you show it the way it is, everyone goes off to sleep.
— Bill Mason

Thanks Bill for not having an airplane crash in my favourite movie of yours (to try and spice it up as producers suggested). Your views of canoeing and wilderness on film, photos and paintings would all be a wonderful discussion around a campfire and wouldn’t put anyone to sleep.

If you want to learn more about Bill Mason, check out James Raffan’s excellent book, Fire in the Bones or check out the Bill Mason exhibit at the Canadian Canoe Museum.
