Earthmate App Now Includes Weather Forecasts

The Earthmate app (a free GPS app that pairs your iOS or Android device with your DeLorme InReach via Bluetooth) was just updated to include Weather Forecasts. Available in two different services (Basic and Premium), this will let you help plan your trips while you are out of cell-phone coverage (A paired inReach satellite communication device is required to access weather features).

The Basic forecast includes temperature, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric pressure details for three days in six-hour intervals. Each forecast counts as one text message against your data plan.

The Premium forecast includes temperature, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric pressure details for seven days. The first 24 hours include one-hour forecasts, the second 24 hours include three-hour forecasts, the third 24 hours include six-hour forecasts, and the remaining four days include 12-hour forecasts. One-hour intervals are not available outside of North America.
