Happy Backcountry Camping with Kevin Callan

Join Kevin Callan, expert paddler and well-known author, to learn how to prepare for your next backcountry paddling adventure in Algonquin Park and beyond. As part of this indoor and outdoor Experience Algonquin Workshop offered by The Friends of Algonquin Park, discover how to prepare for, and complete, your next camping adventure. Join Kevin Callan to learn how to: plan a suitable route; know what gear to take and what to leave behind; keep yourself warm and dry; pack and prepare suitable foods; set up and take down camp; avoid problems with weather, bugs, and bears; enjoy positive group dynamics; plus hear answers to many other frequently asked questions regarding camping. Learn from Kevin Callan’s years of experience and his misadventures, see the latest canoeing gear, and discover how you can make your next Algonquin Park experience a happy camping excursion.

Maximum 20 participants. This workshop is designed for adults, but keen youth with a supervising and participating adult are welcome.

ABOUT KEVIN CALLAN

Kevin Callan is the author of fifteen books, including the best selling “The Happy Camper”, and the incredibly popular series of paddling guides including “A Paddler’s Guide to Algonquin Park”. On a regular basis, Callan presents across North America and the United Kingdom and has been a key speaker at all the major outdoor events for over 25 years. Kevin is also a frequent guest on radio and television and a regular contributor to Explore and CanoeRoots magazines. He is a winner of several National Magazine Awards and film awards. He was also made Patron Paddler for Paddle Canada.

HOW TO REGISTER

Pre-registration is required. To register for this workshop, or for more information, contact Andrea Ruzzo at The Friends of Algonquin Park at (613) 637-2828 extension 236. When you call to register, please have the following items ready: a contact phone number; e-mail address; and a Visa or MasterCard number. The cost for this workshop is $50.00 plus HST for members of The Friends of Algonquin Park. Non-members pay $70.00 plus HST for the workshop and a one-year individual membership. The workshop includes a Park permit, expert instruction with Kevin Callan, and required workshop materials. Participants are encouraged to come prepared for the weather as this workshop is held "rain or shine". Participants are responsible for their own offsite transportation, if necessary. Participants should bring a prepared lunch, as a break will be incorporated into the advertised duration of this workshop.
